Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Junior Rodrigez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frankie Edgar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 1, fighting out of New York, Frankie Edgar!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Bruno Lombardi and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Edgar fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Rodrigez showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Edgar.
Edgar throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Edgar lands with a nice combination. Rodrigez backs away looking to recover.


It looks like Junior Rodrigez has been cut.
Rodrigez walks into a jab.
Edgar throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Rodrigez.
Edgar pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Rodrigez back to the cage. Edgar follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Rodrigez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Edgar stalks Rodrigez and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Rodrigez's face. Rodrigez staggers backwards, shaken.
Edgar throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Edgar jabs Rodrigez right on the nose. Rodrigez blinks but takes it well.
Rodrigez takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Edgar throws a right and a left that both miss.
A right-left combo lands from Edgar.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Rodrigez takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Edgar throws a right hand that Rodrigez ducks under and follows up with a left that Rodrigez also avoids with ease.

Edgar lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Rodrigez circles away quickly and effectively.

Rodrigez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Edgar but Edgar pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Edgar tries to bum rush Rodrigez with a series of wild strikes but Rodrigez uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Rodrigez dives in and grabs Edgar's left leg, looking for a takedown. Edgar pushes down on Rodrigez's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Junior Rodrigez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rodrigez bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Edgar can do anything to dispel that myth.
Edgar is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Rodrigez asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Rodrigez is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Edgar has escaped the position, nice work there.
Rodrigez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Rodrigez goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Edgar rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Rodrigez's guard! Nice work there by Edgar!

Rodrigez shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Edgar as he jumps to the side.
Edgar throws a series of punches but Rodrigez avoids them all with ease.

Well Edgar has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
