The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Colbert walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Merkel tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Colbert counters with a left and a right that stings Merkel.
Merkel digs a good hook to Colbert's body.
Merkel tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Colbert decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Merkel's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Colbert throws and elbow that misses. Merkel uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Colbert's guard. Nice move by Merkel!

Armin Merkel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Colbert dives in and grabs Merkel's left leg, looking for a takedown. Merkel pushes down on Colbert's head and hops out.

A punch lands to the side of Colbert 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Merkel uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Colbert.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Merkel forces Colbert back against the cage and clinches.

Colbert chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Merkel can pounce on him.
