Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kyle Mortis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jeff Wood!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Summer Carpenter and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wood throws a head kick but Mortis moves out of range.
Mortis lands with a straight right. Wood didn't see that one coming.


It looks like Jeff Wood has been cut.

Wood clinches up with Mortis and pushes him back against the cage.
Wood keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Mortis's efforts to push away.
Wood tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Mortis breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Wood uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Mortis.
Mortis throws a left and a right that both miss
and Wood counters with a stiff right hand.
Mortis throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mortis fails to land with a series of punches.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mortis misses with a hook. Wood ducked under it nicely.
Wood checks a leg kick nicely.
Mortis gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Mortis swinging wildly here.
Mortis throws a right hand that Wood ducks under and follows up with a left that Wood also avoids with ease.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Mortis's corner calls for a 1-2. Mortis obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mortis misses the shot to the body.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Wood misses with a knee to the head.
Mortis is trying to break free.
Mortis takes a knee to the side of the body.

Wood breaks the clinch.
Wood tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mortis paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Mortis throws a right hand that Wood ducks under and follows up with a left that Wood also avoids with ease.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wood looks to clinch
and Mortis connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Wood pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A jab from Mortis finds it's way through Wood's defenses.
Some wild striking there from Mortis.
Wood throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mortis.
A head kick misses from Wood.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wood tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mortis paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Wood closes the distance but Mortis moves to the side
and Mortis counters with a lovely straight right hand!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mortis lands a lovely overhand right.


That has opened up Jeff Wood's cut even more.
Wood scores with a head kick.
Mortis throws a leg kick that misses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Wood tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Mortis manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Mortis uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kyle Mortis dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jeff Wood's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Wood throws a poor cross that misses

and Mortis counters with a crisp right hand that drops Wood! Mortis lets Wood back up to his feet, looking for a finish!


Wood is rocked!
Mortis lands a jab to the nose.
Wood is still on wobbly legs! Can Mortis finish him?
Mortis throws a hook to the side of Wood's head but Wood sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Wood seems to have recovered his senses.
Mortis lands an uppercut out of nowhere! Wood falls backwards - clearly groggy! Mortis dives in and finishes the fight with more strikes for a TKO finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kyle Mortis!
