Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Murray Hewitt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derrick Grey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Derrick Grey has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Murray Hewitt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Derrick Grey!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Konstantin Menshow and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hewitt jabbing away but nothing is landing.
The fighters circling - Hewitt throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
A head kick misses from Hewitt.
Danga de danga de dang - Grey scores with a four punch combination!
Grey fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hewitt avoids it really well and circles away.

Grey gets the takedown into side control.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Hewitt is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Grey controls the position.
Grey throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Grey tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
You can see the frustration on Hewitt's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Grey wants to control but Hewitt is keeping him busy.
Grey laying and praying for a moment but Hewitt takes advantage and regains half guard.
Grey seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hewitt does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

and Grey counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Hewitt seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Grey won't allow Hewitt to get back to his feet.
Grey stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hewitt swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hewitt cracks Grey with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Hewitt throws a right and a left that Grey avoids nicely.

Grey takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
A looping hook to the body misses from Grey. Hewitt does a little dance to reset his feet.

Hewitt gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Hewitt uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Hewitt misses with a low kick as Grey jumps back.

Hewitt thows a body shot but no joy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Grey shoots in but no luck this time.

and Grey counters with a right hand to the body.

That was a close round but I would say that Murray Hewitt will probably get the nod.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Hewitt bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Grey's head.
Hewitt dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Grey tries to move into range but Hewitt moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Grey takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Grey fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hewitt to the ground. Grey is now in Hewitt's guard.

Grey takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Hewitt throws the left hand but Grey avoids the punch easily.

Grey throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Hewitt throws a hook to the side of Grey's head but Grey sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Hewitt clobbers Grey with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Hewitt wants to land a leg kick but Grey is out of range.

Grey bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Grey is just content to waste time from the top position. Hewitt takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Grey must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Grey looking to sit in guard and control but Hewitt gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Hewitt just misses with a punch to the body.
Hewitt walks into a jab.
Grey finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Hewitt throws a push kick but Grey slaps the foot to one side.
Grey takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Hewitt moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Grey shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Grey prevents Hewitt from improving his position.
Grey wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hewitt keeps working.

Hewitt looks like he's trying to stand up.
Hewitt has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Grey is working away from the top position though.
Hewitt tries to kick Grey off but Grey keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Grey perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Hewitt misses with an uppercut. Grey saw that one coming.

and Grey counters with a slapping leg kick.

Hewitt looks to land a body kick but Grey moved away.
Hewitt throws out a loose jab but Grey uses good head movement to avoid it.
Hewitt misses with a looping right.
Grey takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Grey tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hewitt was well out of range. Poor timing from Grey.
Grey shoots in looking for a takedown. Hewitt tries to sprawl out of it but Grey keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hewitt manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Grey takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Hewitt throws a leg kick but Grey checks it.
Hewitt lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

Grey on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Grey takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Grey misses the shot to the body.

Hewitt tries to sprawl but Grey drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Hewitt moves into full guard.
Hewitt is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Derrick Grey has got the better of the ground game so far.
Grey is trying to stand back up but Hewitt is controlling him

Grey is pressing down on Hewitt's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Hewitt wants to control from the top but Grey keeps moving.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Hewitt postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Murray Hewitt showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hewitt, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
