The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Payette shoots for a takedown but Paukkuu saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Payette throws a head kick that misses.
Nyrkki Paukkuu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Payette instigates a clinch.
Payette tries to break the clinch but Paukkuu is controlling the position.

Paukkuu breaks the clinch.
Good work by Paukkuu as he checks the leg kick.
Payette throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Paukkuu tries for a takedown but Payette circles away easily

and Payette holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Paukkuu really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Payette . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Paukkuu wants to stand but Payette has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Payette pushes Paukkuu off and scrambles back to his feet.
Paukkuu throws a nice looking combination but Payette bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Payette closes the distance and clinches up with Paukkuu, looking for a takedown. Payette pushes Paukkuu against the cage but Paukkuu circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Payette throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Paukkuu.

It looks like Charles Payette has been cut.
Payette might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Paukkuu stands up and waves to Payette to follow him.
Oh Payette is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Paukkuu avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Paukkuu is looking for an opening here. He's unloaded a big left hand that catches Payette flush on the jaw and sends him tumbling to the canvas! Payette is out cold! Paukkuu holds back from landing any unnecessary shots to his unconscious opponent, as the referee reacts slowly to the situation. A brutal knockout and then some excellent sportsmanship - this guy is my new favorite fighter!
