PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Greg Chang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kesse Nesse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Greg Chang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kesse Nesse!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Ren Mimura and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chang fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Chang gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Nesse can't get the takedown.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Chang.

Nesse breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Chang fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Nesse, pushing him back against the cage.
Nesse prevents Chang from breaking the clinch.

Chang has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Nesse uses from the top position.
Chang pulls Nesse in close to prevent any damage.
Chang wants to sweep here but Nesse controlling him for the moment.
Chang has momentary wrist control but Nesse slips an elbow through the middle.

Chang is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Chang wants to stand and escape but Nesse is having none of it.
Nesse has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Chang gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Nesse throws a head punch that misses.

Chang jumps guard and drags Nesse to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Chang will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Chang manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Nesse tries to clinch up

and Chang counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Nesse wants to sweep but no luck.
Nesse has control of Chang's left arm, preventing Chang from doing any damage.
Chang trying to control but Nesse is working from the bottom.
Chang has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Chang won't allow Nesse to get back to his feet.

Nesse wants to stand and escape but Chang is having none of it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Chang clinches.
Nesse lands a shoulder strike.

Nesse drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Chang gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Chang prevents Nesse from breaking the clinch.
Nesse is working for takedown but Chang is calmly controlling the position for now.
Greg Chang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kesse Nesse.

Chang manages to break the clinch.
Kesse Nesse seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nesse connects with a jab.

Nesse is looking to escape.

Chang wants to control but Nesse is keeping him busy.
Nesse moves into full guard.
Chang trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Chang wants to control from the top but Nesse keeps moving.
Chang throws a strike but Nesse rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Chang is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Chang tries to stand but can't do so whilst Nesse controls his leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chang throws a chopping leg kick but Nesse manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

Chang feints and as Nesse raises his hands in defense, Chang changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Chang advances position into side control!

Chang stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Chang shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Nesse's guard.

Nesse looking for a guillotine here but Chang defends easily.

Nesse is looking to clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Nesse throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Chang sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Nesse has his takedown stuffed

and Chang counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Nesse's guard now.

Chang decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Nesse, up you get!

Chang closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Chang wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Nesse, who protects the arm well.
Chang wants to take a breather but Nesse manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Chang.

Chang decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Nesse, up you get!

Chang is keen to just control but Nesse is a slippery customer.

Nesse is staying active underneath Chang, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Nesse has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Chang is working away from the top position though.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Nesse postures up.
Chang wants to improve his position but instead Nesse has moved into half guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Nesse throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.


It looks like Greg Chang has been cut.

so Chang counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Chang is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Nesse decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Chang takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Nice takedown defense from Chang. No joy for Nesse on that attempt.

Chang has taken the fight to the clinch.
Chang tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Nesse smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Greg Chang. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Chang bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Chang drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Chang has knee on belly momentarily but Nesse bucks him off and regains half guard.
Chang tries to pass the half guard into mount. Nesse knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Kesse Nesse has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Nesse tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

And that's the end of the fight!
Greg Chang showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Chang, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
