Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tiago Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bryan Sherk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mendez comes into the arena with Trap Door blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bryan Sherk!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Ackerman and Paul Tew.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mendez shoots in and gets a takedown into Sherk's guard.
Mendez wants to control from the top but Sherk keeps moving.
Mendez is pushing down on Sherk's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sherk is fighting to maintain full guard but Mendez has managed to sneak the leg through.
Mendez is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Mendez is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Sherk can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Sherk is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Sherk tries to hold on but Mendez pushes him away.
Mendez landing strikes from the mount and Sherk is in trouble!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mendez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Mendez throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sherk.
Sherk misses the shot to the body.
Mendez fails in his attempt to clinch.

Mendez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sherk looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sherk tries to improve position but can't.

Mendez is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sherk is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Sherk is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Mendez is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Mendez sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Mendez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mendez tries to clinch up but Sherk circles away and keeps his distance.

Mendez prevents Sherk from escaping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sherk manages to get back to half guard.

Mendez is working for a submission of some sort.
Still in half guard, Mendez seems content to control.

Mendez tries to stand and escape but Sherk actually recovers to full guard.

Sherk keeping moving, preventing Mendez from controlling successfully.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Tiago Mendez just wasn't active enough.

Mendez gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Mendez tries to pull guard but Sherk holds him up against the cage and eventually Mendez drops back down to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mendez has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Sherk is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
