PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Anthony De (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricardo Alonso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Anthony De!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ricardo Alonso!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Chad Campbell and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
De lands a jab to Alonso's midsection.
De tries to clinch up but Alonso circles away and keeps his distance.

De fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Alonso to the ground. De is now in Alonso's guard.
Alonso lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for De!
De is looking to get to half guard.
Alonso tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Alonso lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Alonso lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Alonso controlling the pace for now.
De tries to hold on but Alonso postures up.
De knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alonso on the ground.

It looks like Alonso might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Alonso is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, De has managed to escape the submission attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

De wants to hold on but Alonso pushes him away.
Alonso lands a nice shot to the head.
Alonso controlling the pace for now.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Alonso has control of De's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and De regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Alonso avoids the attempt from De to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alonso lands a big shot there that rocks De but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Alonso takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ricardo Alonso dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


De moves in looking to clinch but Alonso pushes him off.

De gets a double leg takedown into Alonso's guard.
De wants to control from the top but Alonso keeps moving.
Alonso bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in De's guard.
De wants to stand and escape but Alonso is having none of it.
De wants to get back to his feet but Alonso passes into half guard.
Alonso uses his free foot to push down on De's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for De.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Alonso has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of De's face.

Alonso quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Alonso but it's paid off an De is forced to tap! Nice work by Alonso.
