The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kovalev avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Woitek instigates a clinch.
Woitek stalling in the clinch but Kovalev improves position.
Woitek misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Kovalev goes for a takedown attempt but Woitek pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Woitek looks to land a combination but Kovalev avoids it well.
Woitek lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Woitek lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Woitek.
Woitek moves into range and throws a big uppercut. OH! Kovalev goes down! Can Woitek finish him!?

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Woitek passes into half guard.
Oh Kovalev is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Woitek seems to be working for a kimura but Kovalev defends the submission attempt.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

A left and a right from Woitek both land. Nice combination.
Woitek throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Kovalev's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Woitek dives in looking to finish as Kovalev flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Woitek's strikes! Woitek is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Kovalev's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Kovalev was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
