Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ippo Makunochi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Jack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ippo Makunochi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Jack!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, William Peck and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Makunochi throws a poor cross that misses
and Jack counters with a body kick.
A slow jab from Makunochi misses its intended target.
Makunochi loads up on a big right hand but Jack slips the punch.

Jack shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Jack avoids the attempt from Makunochi to control.
Jack trying to control but Makunochi is having none of it.
Makunochi can't escape the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Makunochi prevents any damage by holding on tight.
Makunochi is wriggling around trying to escape.

Makunochi tries to reverse the position but Jack maintains control.
Jack tries to push Makunochi's head away but Makunochi is holding on tight.

Makunochi is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Makunochi is squirming around, avoiding Jack's attempts to control the action.
Jack unloads with some shots from mount but Makunochi bucks and avoids them well.
Jack throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

Jack goes for an armbar but Makunochi turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Makunochi.
Makunochi passes into half guard.

Makunochi wants to work for an arm triangle but Jack is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Makunochi is taking a breather. Jack says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Makunochi lands strikes from half guard.
Makunochi drops an elbow to the side of Jack's head.

Makunochi is looking for a kimura but Jack is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Makunochi to get the leverage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Makunochi connects with a nice short shot to Jack's temple.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Jack really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Makunochi. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Makunochi seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Jack for as long as he can get away with.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Makunochi is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Jack doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Makunochi.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Jack shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Jack showed some decent athleticism there.
Makunochi makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Makunochi.
Makunochi has control of Jack's left arm, preventing Jack from doing any damage.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Makunochi is controlling Jack's posture.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ippo Makunochi.
Jack wants to clinch but Makunochi slips to the side

and Makunochi decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Jack's guard.
Makunochi is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Makunochi passes into half guard.

Makunochi is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Jack doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Makunochi.

Makunochi is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jack defends it well.
Jack is trying to stand up here but Makunochi is controlling him well.

Makunochi is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Makunochi is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Makunochi is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Ippo Makunochi overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Jack is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Makunochi scores with a couple of nice shots.

Makunochi looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Makunochi seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Jack is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
