PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between White Pawn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kurt Sloane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sloane has chosen Beautiful as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, White Pawn!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kurt Sloane!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Igor Prikhodko and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pawn avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Sloane displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Pawn throws out the jab.

Pawn drives through with a takedown into Sloane's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Pawn pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sloane is keeping the position for now.
Pawn trying to move into half guard but instead Sloane has managed to sweep!
Pawn is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Pawn wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Pawn working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sloane doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sloane manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pawn has his feet on Sloane's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pawn lunges at Sloane with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Sloane's hand.
A head kick misses from Sloane.
Pawn lands a really nice looking cross but Sloane seems unphased.
Pawn slips a straight right by Sloane.
Pawn looks to land a left hand but Sloane moved out of range nicely.
Sloane pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Sloane throws a sloppy head kick and Pawn moves out of range easily.
Pawn fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Sloane lands a leg kick that knocks Pawn off balance momentarily.
Sloane throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sloane scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Pawn digs a good hook to Sloane's body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sloane misses with a head kick.
Sloane looks gassed!
Sloane throws a sloppy head kick

and Pawn counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Pawn passes easily into side control. Nice work.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Pawn sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Sloane is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Pawn misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
You can see the frustration on Sloane's face as Pawn controls the position.

Pawn is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Sloane looks calm but he's in trouble here. Pawn gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Sloane is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Pawn lets go of the hold and Sloane can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:03 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). White Pawn!
White Pawn retains his light heavyweight title!
