PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Demien Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Chuck Steel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Demien Maia!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Saam Ante and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steel is looking to land body kicks.
Steel lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Steel scores with a nice head shot.
Maia gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Steel makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Maia really felt that one!
Steel defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Maia.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Maia closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Steel is trying to control Maia's posture but Maia avoids it.
Steel knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Maia on the ground.
Steel tries to buck Maia off but Maia is having none of it.

Maia working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Steel tries to improve position but can't.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Maia looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
You can see the frustration on Steel's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Maia tries for a kimura but Steel is defending well.

Maia thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Steel gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Steel trying to hold on to Maia's head to control him but Maia postures up.

Maia is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Steel doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Maia.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Steel is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Steel is defending against the submission attempts here by Maia.

Steel is trying to control but can't.
Steel wants to get back to full guard but Maia has mounted him!
Steel tries to hold on but Maia postures up.
Steel might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Steel is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Maia is working for a guillotine from mount but Steel frees his head quite easily.
Steel is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Maia with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Steel tries to reverse the position but Maia maintains control.
Steel tries to lock up and control but Maia gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Steel is looking to improve his position but Maia isn't that keen on the idea.

Maia is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Steel can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Demien Maia dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Maia shoots in but Steel avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Maia looks for a takedown but Steel sprawls well.
Maia walks into a stiff left hand from Steel.

Maia gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Steel to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Steel trying to control the position from guard on top but Maia is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Chuck Steel.
Maia takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Steel scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Maia.
Chuck Steel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Demien Maia.
Maia is breathing heavily.
Maia has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Maia there as he acknowledges the shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A nice leg kick lands there from Steel.
Steel thows a body kick. Maia tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Chuck Steel is winning the standup battle so far.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Maia has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Steel.
Steel lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Maia at a distance.
Maia takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Steel buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Steel throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Steel thuds his shin into the meat of Maia's side.
Crunch! Steel slams his shin into Maia's torso.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Steel - that will leave a mark!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Steel misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Good exchange - Steel coming out on top.
Steel connects with a crisp jab.
Steel cracks the inside of Maia's front leg.

Steel lands a big head kick that sends Maia tumbling to the mat! Steel takes a step backwards and waves Maia back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Maia is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Steel circles to his right before unloading a perfect head kick! Maia drops to the canvas, hurt badly! Steel follows Maia to the ground and unloads with a series of strikes that force the referee to step in and end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chuck Steel!
