The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sailo tries to clinch there but Sammartino circles away.
Sammartino stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sammartino wants it to stay on the feet.

Sammartino tries to buck Sailo off but Sailo is having none of it.

Sammartino has one of Sailo's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.

Sailo wants to stand but Sammartino is controlling his arm.
Sammartino is looking to regain half guard here but Sailo keeps moving and retains side control.
Sammartino knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sailo on the ground.

Sailo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sammartino is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Sammartino is looking for a sweep. Sailo is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Sailo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sammartino does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Sailo gets caught napping as Sammartino dives in and scores a takedown. Sailo manages to retain guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sailo is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Sammartino wants the takedown. Sailo is fighting it off but Sammartino persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Sailo's guard against the cage.
