PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Koss Rivers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Sontana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Koss Rivers is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Koss Rivers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Carlos Sontana!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rivers misses with a takedown attempt - Sontana sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Rivers gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Sontana counters with a stiff right hand.
Sontana tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rivers sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sontana somewhat.
Sontana has a takedown stuffed.
Horrible takedown by Rivers or perhaps it was just good defense by Sontana which made him look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Koss Rivers. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rivers tries to land a front kick but Sontana steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Sontana fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Rivers avoids it really well and circles away.
Rivers displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sontana.
Sontana tries to clinch but Rivers is having none of it.

Rivers takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Rivers's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Rivers ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Rivers no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Sontana drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rivers manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Sontana has Rivers in his guard.

Rivers is looking to take a break and control but Sontana is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rivers is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Sontana!
Sontana is squirming around, avoiding Rivers's attempts to control the action.
Rivers throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Sontana because Rivers loaded up on that one.

Rivers looking to break Sontana's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Sontana remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Rivers will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Rivers is really struggling to control Sontana but he's trying to hold on to the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Rivers dives in and grabs Sontana's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sontana pushes down on Rivers's head and hops out.

Sontana struggles to land a body shot inside as Rivers controls his hands.
Rivers has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Sontana avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Rivers keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Sontana's efforts to push away.
Sontana tries to stall but Rivers uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Sontana gets underhooks to prevent Rivers's takedown attempt.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Rivers is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Sontana defends well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Koss Rivers dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


A head kick misses from Rivers.
Sontana shoots in and drives through. Rivers sprawls well.

Rivers fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Sontana, pushing him back against the cage.

Rivers swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Sontana cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Sontana shoots for a double leg takedown but Rivers sprawls well. He's pushed Sontana's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Rivers lands with a kick to the temple. Sontana shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Koss Rivers is winning the standup battle so far.
Sontana darts in trying to clinch
and Rivers counters with an outside leg kick.
Sontana looks to score with a jab to the body but Rivers is just out of range.

Rivers clinches up with Sontana and pushes him back against the cage.

Rivers jumps guard.
Rivers throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Rivers looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Sontana looking to sit in guard and control but Rivers gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Sontana takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Sontana keeping moving, preventing Rivers from controlling successfully.

Rivers stands up from Sontana's guard - Rivers perhaps looking for a knockout.

Sontana pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Rivers back to the cage. Sontana follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Rivers stuffs the takedown.
Koss Rivers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Carlos Sontana.

Rivers shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Well Rivers has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
