PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Antonio Ellison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Keisuke Honda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Ellison might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to im bad. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Antonio Ellison!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Keisuke Honda!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ellison misses with a body shot.
Honda misses with a hook. Ellison ducked under it nicely.
Honda looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Ellison has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Honda finds it's way round the side to connect with Ellison's head.

Ellison shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Honda tries to roll over but Ellison keeps him under control.
Honda is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Ellison wants to lay and pray for a moment but Honda keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ellison is looking to advance position but Honda won't allow it.

Ellison is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Honda moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Honda keeping moving, preventing Ellison from controlling successfully.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Honda shoots in but no luck this time.
Ellison is looking to clinch but Honda is avoiding it.
Ellison throws a series of punches but Honda moves out of range.

Honda closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Honda looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Ellison is looking for a sweep.

Honda is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Ellison knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Ellison parries the strikes from Honda easily there. Honda is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Ellison to escape.
Honda works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Honda tries to move into full mount but can't pass Ellison's legs.
Ellison tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Honda wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Honda gets to mount! Ellison was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Keisuke Honda dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Honda missing with a left hand there. Ellison was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Honda bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Ellison's head.
Honda throws a right and a left that both miss.
Antonio Ellison seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ellison turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Honda keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Ellison.
Honda cracks Ellison with a right hand to the side of the head.
Ellison tries to clinch there but Honda circles away.
Honda listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Ellison pivots, looking for a leg kick but Honda is out of range and Ellison settles back down.

Ellison is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Honda can't fight it off and eventually Ellison manages to take the fight to the floor. Honda looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Honda is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ellison defends well.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Honda. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Honda bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ellison's guard.

Honda is working Ellison over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Honda accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Ellison closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Honda to the mat! Honda manages to get full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Antonio Ellison will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Ellison seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Honda for as long as he can get away with.
Ellison is nestled in close to Honda, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Honda is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Keisuke Honda comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Honda has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
