Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joe Sanders (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Porter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Porter has chosen Red Hot Chili Peppers - Roller Coaster of Love as his entrance music. Matt Porter has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Joe Sanders's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Sanders!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 1, fighting out of New York, Matt Porter!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Eddie Farnsworth and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Porter, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Porter throws a nice inside leg kick.
Matt Porter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sanders scores with a takedown into Porter's guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Sanders content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Porter wants to stand and escape but Sanders is having none of it.
Sanders has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Sanders working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Sanders keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Porter's head.
Sanders throws a strike but Porter rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Matt Porter was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Sanders tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Porter manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Porter throws a hook to the side of Sanders's head but Sanders sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Sanders chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Porter can pounce on him.
Sanders checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.

Sanders closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sanders lands in his opponent's guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Porter is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Joe Sanders will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Porter throws a low kick but Sanders avoids it.
Porter lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Sanders circles away quickly and effectively.
Sanders's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Porter connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Sanders scrambles back to his feet.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Porter.

Sanders working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Porter's head.
Porter wants to stand but Sanders is controlling the position.
Porter seems keen to control Sanders's posture.

Sanders is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Sanders knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Porter on the ground.
Porter is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Porter escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sanders gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Sanders is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Porter keeping moving, preventing Sanders from controlling successfully.
Sanders throws and elbow that misses. Porter uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Sanders's guard. Nice move by Porter!

Porter gets to his feet - Sanders follows without any prompting.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sanders stops Porter from getting back to his feet.

Porter regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Sanders.

Porter has his foot on Sanders's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sanders works his way back into a safe position though.

Porter is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Joe Sanders overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Sanders looking to sit in guard and control but Porter gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Sanders has a closed guard, preventing Porter from standing up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sanders is looking to sweep but instead, Porter has passed into half guard.
Porter seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sanders does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Porter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!
