PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kofi Amebi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rasul Mirzoev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Amebi comes to the cage accompanied by Mieczysław Fogg - Ta ostatnia niedziela. Kofi Amebi could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Rasul Mirzoev's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Kofi Amebi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Rasul Mirzoev!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Daniel Bishop and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mirzoev moves into the clinch.
Mirzoev looking for a takedown.

Mirzoev breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A looping hook to the body misses from Amebi. Mirzoev does a little dance to reset his feet.
Amebi connects with a body shot that sends Mirzoev's belly button to the back.
Amebi gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Amebi lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Mirzoev just misses with a punch to the body.
Amebi fails with an attempt to clinch.
Mirzoev fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Amebi manages to avoid it.
Amebi is looking to clinch.
Amebi tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mirzoev swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Mirzoev looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Amebi is fending him off so far but Mirzoev persists. Nope, Amebi circles away and we're back to standing.
Amebi moves out of range of the body kick from Mirzoev.
Amebi wants to clinch but Mirzoev slips to the side

and Mirzoev counters with a takedown into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Mirzoev decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Amebi is breathing heavily.

Amebi swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Mirzoev counters with a shoot takedown. Amebi fights it but they end up in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mirzoev sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Amebi's guard.
Mirzoev not doing much here.

Mirzoev wants to work for an arm triangle but Amebi is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Mirzoev slows the pace down in half guard.

Amebi won't allow Mirzoev to pass to mount.
Mirzoev takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rasul Mirzoev has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Mirzoev is defended easily by Amebi.
Kofi Amebi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rasul Mirzoev.
Mirzoev shoots in looking for a takedown. Amebi tries to sprawl out of it but Mirzoev keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Amebi manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Mirzoev swats away the attempt to clinch by Amebi.
Amebi swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Amebi tries to clinch up
and Mirzoev cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Mirzoev scoring well with a low kick there.
Mirzoev swats away the attempt to clinch by Amebi.
Amebi is looking to clinch but Mirzoev is avoiding it.
Amebi stuffs the takedown.
No joy there for Amebi, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Mirzoev lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Mirzoev has taken the fight to the clinch.
Mirzoev scores with a hook to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mirzoev is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Amebi is trying to push Mirzoev away but Mirzoev has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Mirzoev tries to score a power double leg takedown but Amebi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mirzoev somewhat.
Mirzoev throws a nice inside leg kick.
Amebi tries to clinch there but Mirzoev circles away.
Mirzoev closes the distance and clinches up with Amebi, looking for a takedown. Mirzoev pushes Amebi against the cage but Amebi circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Amebi misses with a two punch combination.
Rasul Mirzoev seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Amebi leaves Mirzoev with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Amebi has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mirzoev tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Amebi is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Mirzoev jumps guard and drags Amebi to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Mirzoev is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Mirzoev is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Amebi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mirzoev on the ground.
Amebi postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Mirzoev is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Amebi defends well.
Amebi has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Rasul Mirzoev was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Kofi Amebi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Amebi throws a series of punches but Mirzoev moves out of range.

Amebi gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Mirzoev is pushing down on Amebi's leg trying to pass to half guard. Amebi is fighting to maintain full guard but Mirzoev has managed to sneak the leg through.
Mirzoev content to control rather than advance.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rasul Mirzoev showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Amebi ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mirzoev moves away.
Kofi Amebi is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Amebi scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Mirzoev dodges the punch combination from Amebi.

The referee is keeping an eye on Mirzoev - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Amebi is pressed up against the cage. Mirzoev has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Amebi down to the mat. Amebi avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Mirzoev closes the distance and pushes Amebi back into the cage.
Mirzoev effectively controlling the action here.

Amebi rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mirzoev moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Kofi Amebi has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rasul Mirzoev is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Mirzoev is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Amebi is surviving well by controlling Mirzoev's body position as best he can.

Rasul Mirzoev comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Mirzoev has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
