Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 20 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Cowell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Thiago Muerte!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Seu Braga and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Cowell as Muerte shoots in.
Anderson Cowell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cowell misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Cowell shoots and misses
letting Muerte counter with a right hand.
Cowell throws a head kick but Muerte moves out of range.
Cowell gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Muerte counters with a nice uppercut.


It looks like Anderson Cowell has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Muerte clinches.

Cowell has Muerte pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Cowell pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Muerte tumbling to the mat - Cowell dives into Muerte's guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Muerte is trying to maintain the position but Cowell is very close to passing his half guard.

Cowell is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Muerte to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Muerte shrugs it off.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Muerte is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Cowell pulls his head out easily.

Cowell is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Muerte has managed to free his arm - good work.

Muerte tries to roll over but Cowell keeps him under control.

Muerte moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Muerte working for a triangle but Cowell defends it easily.

Cowell thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Cowell passes into half guard.
Muerte is pressing down on Cowell's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Cowell tries to free his leg and advance position but Muerte is retaining full guard.

Muerte is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cowell defends well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Muerte looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Cowell trying to control but Muerte is working from the bottom.
Cowell slips nicely into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Cowell is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Muerte defends it well.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Cowell seems to be looking for submissions.
Muerte is looking for a sweep. Cowell is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Thiago Muerte will probably get the nod.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Cowell with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Muerte to score with a decent uppercut.
Muerte stuffs the takedown attempt from Cowell. Cowell gets slowly back to his feet.
Muerte connects with the punch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Muerte manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Cowell on his heels. He'll look to pass Cowell's guard now, I'm sure.

Cowell is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Muerte lands a couple of digs.

Cowell has his foot on Muerte's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Muerte works his way back into a safe position though.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Muerte is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Cowell can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Cowell is in a horrible position here. Muerte smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Oooh a big shot lands for Muerte! Cowell is out! The ref dives in to save him from more punishment!
