The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vovkov dodges the punch combination from Benedez.
Benedez throws a nice outside leg kick.
Horrible takedown by Vovkov or perhaps it was just good defense by Benedez which made him look bad.

and Benedez counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

It looks like Vlad Vovkov has been cut.
Benedez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Benedez throws a right and a left that both miss.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Harold Benedez was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Vovkov shoots for a takedown but Benedez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Vovkov has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Vovkov there as he acknowledges the shot.

Vovkov shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Benedez but Benedez pushes him off and we're back to square one.

and Vovkov counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Benedez wants to stand and escape but Vovkov is having none of it.

Benedez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vovkov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Vovkov drops back, looking for a kneebar! Benedez looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Benedez looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Benedez!

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Benedez throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
