PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ron Aldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rashad Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Aldo's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, 2Pac-Nig ready 4 war. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ron Aldo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rashad Evans!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Robert Douchet and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aldo closes the distance looking to clinch

and Evans counters with a shoot takedown. Aldo fights it but they end up in guard.
Aldo wants to sweep but no luck.
Aldo keeping full guard, as Evans tries to pass.
Aldo throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Evans is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Evans is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Evans working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Aldo's head.
Evans's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Evans must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Aldo is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Evans tries to stand but Aldo is controlling from the bottom.

Evans postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Aldo is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Evans, into his guard.
Aldo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Aldo is trying to control. Evans wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Aldo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Evans really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Aldo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Aldo tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Evans can do anything to dispel that myth.

Aldo missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Aldo is keen to just control but Evans is a slippery customer.
Aldo is pressing down on Evans's thigh, looking to free his foot. Evans is holding on for now.
Aldo is stalling here. Evans is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Aldo seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Evans has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Evans decides to stand back up. Evans steps back and let's Aldo get back to his feet.

Evans darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Aldo pushes Evans off and gets back to his feet.
Aldo closes the distance and clinches up with Evans, looking for a takedown. Aldo pushes Evans against the cage but Evans circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Evans bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Evans remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Evans decides to stand back up. Evans steps back and let's Aldo get back to his feet.
Aldo is breathing heavily.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Aldo pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Evans looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Aldo is fending him off so far but Evans persists. Nope, Aldo circles away and we're back to standing.
Aldo lands a two punch combo.

and Evans counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Aldo wants to clinch up but Evans keeps it at a distance.

Evans shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Still in half guard, Evans seems content to control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Aldo moves into full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Evans misses with a head kick.
Aldo throws a head kick that misses.
Aldo feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Evanss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Aldo uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Evans.

Evans throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Aldo tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Evans is in Aldo's guard.

Aldo wants to stand and escape but Evans is having none of it.
Aldo tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Rashad Evans wasn't active enough on the ground.

Evans changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Aldo tries to avoid it but Evans manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Aldo to the ground. Aldo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Evans wants to slow Aldo down by chopping away at his legs.
Aldo doesn't manage to clinch there - Evans circles away.

Evans walks forward, straight into a front kick from Aldo.
Aldo tries to clinch but Evans moves out of range.
Aldo tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Evans swivels and escapes.

Aldo tries to bum rush Evans with a series of wild strikes but Evans uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Aldo throws a right hand that Evans ducks under and follows up with a left that Evans also avoids with ease.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Aldo dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Evans. That did some damage!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Evans stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Evans wants it to stay on the feet.

Aldo tries to sprawl but Evans drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Aldo is trying to control but can't.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Evans lands a nice short elbow.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Aldo is looking to escape.
Evans is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Evans seems to be looking for submissions.
Evans perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Aldo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Evans is working away from the top position though.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Aldo tries to get to full guard but Evans has control of the leg.
Evans seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Aldo wants to improve his position but Evans is controlling well.

Rashad Evans has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Evans shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
