The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Gomez.

and Reese counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Reese lands strikes from half guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Gomez is defending against the submission attempts here by Reese.

Reese wants to work for an arm triangle but Gomez is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Gomez tries to roll over but Reese keeps him under control.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Gomez is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Reese pulls his head out easily.

Reese is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Reese is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gomez is just riding it out for now. Reese eventually gives up the hold.

Gomez is breathing heavily.

Reese is looking for a kimura but Gomez is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Reese to get the leverage.
Gomez wants to get back to full guard.

Reese tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Gomez.
Reese looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gomez with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Reese is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Gomez is pressing down on Reese's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Reese thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Reese has hold of Gomez's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Gomez manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Reese is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Gomez is surviving well by controlling Reese's body position as best he can.

Reese with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Gomez bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Reese is looking to stand up but Gomez isn't so interested in that idea.
Reese looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gomez is one step ahead there.

Reese is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Gomez has his hands clasped together but Reese extends an breaks Gomez's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Reese.
