The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Omar misses with a takedown attempt
and Maddox counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Maddox throws an off balance right hand

and Omar counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Omar wants to pass to mount but Maddox is defending the position.

Omar looking for a submission but Maddox manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
Maddox wants to sweep here but Omar controlling him for the moment.

Maddox pushes Omar off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Maddox stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Omar swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Omar wants to control the action here but instead Maddox manages to pass to full mount!

Maddox has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Omar's face.
Maddox lands a big shot there that rocks Omar but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
