Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Raul Hughes!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lam circles away from the clinch attempt.
Lam fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Lam closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Lam lands in his opponent's guard.
Hughes wants to sweep here but Lam controlling him for the moment.
Hughes preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Lam throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hughes works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lam accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Hughes pulls Lam in close to prevent any damage.
Lam postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Lam looking to sit in guard and control but Hughes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Lam wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Lam is looking to sweep but instead, Hughes has passed into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hughes is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Lam keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Hughes tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Lam tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hughes scoring with strikes but Lam is staying in there.
Lam really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Lam is trying to reverse the position but instead Hughes has taken his back - oops!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lam trying to control the position but Hughes manages to sink in the hooks.

Hughes biding his time, controlling Lam.
Lam wants to get back to his feet.
Hughes controls the position.
Hughes tries to get the hooks in deep but Lam pushed the leg off.
I would not like to be Lam right now.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Raul Hughes was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Lam fails with the takedown

and Hughes counters with a nice right hand that sends Lam toppling to the canvas! Lam scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Hughes finish him?!


It looks like John Lam has been cut.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Lam manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Hughes on his heels. He'll look to pass Hughes's guard now, I'm sure.
Hughes looking for a sweep. Not yet Hughes, not yet.
Lam trying to control but Hughes is working from the bottom.
Hughes punching from the bottom - just letting Lam know he's still in a fight.
Lam trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Hughes looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lam is one step ahead there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lam looking to sit in guard and control but Hughes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lam misses with a left hand
and Hughes counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Nice takedown defense from Hughes. No joy for Lam on that attempt.

Hughes gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Hughes utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Hughes is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Hughes is pushing down on Lam's leg trying to pass to half guard. Lam is fighting to maintain full guard but Hughes has managed to sneak the leg through.
Lam is trying to maintain the position but Hughes is very close to passing his half guard.
Still in half guard, Hughes seems content to control.
John Lam overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Hughes decides to stand and escape the position.
Lam misses with a takedown
and Hughes counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Good standup being displayed there by Hughes as he connects with a hook.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Lam has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Lam. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lam tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hughes sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lam somewhat.
Lam doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Hughes counters with an outside leg kick.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Lam tries for a takedown but Hughes circles away easily
and Hughes counters with a stiff jab, followed by a cross and an uppercut! That's too much punishment for Lam to take - he tumbles to the canvas, blood pouring from his nose, barely conscious. That's the end of the fight! Great knockout by Hughes!
