PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeff Quaker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Big Bastard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 12 - 0, fighting out of London, Jeff Quaker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Big Bastard!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Andrew Berry and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Quaker stuffs the takedown attempt from Bastard. Bastard gets slowly back to his feet.
Bastard tries to clinch there but Quaker circles away.
Bastard fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Bastard.
Bastard misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Jeff Quaker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Big Bastard.
Quaker closes this distance looking for a takedown but Bastard circles away.

Bastard fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Quaker to the ground. Bastard is now in Quaker's guard.
Bastard must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Bastard doesn't manage to clinch there - Quaker circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Bastard looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Bastard decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Bastard blocks the strikes from Quaker.
Bastard takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Bastard is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Quaker really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Bastard lands a nice short elbow.
Bastard thows a huge punch but Quaker dodges it nicely.

Bastard moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Quaker has worked his arm free - good work by Quaker!
Bastard looks up at the clock and then as Quaker takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Bastard smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Quaker is not content to let Bastard control the position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Quaker gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Big Bastard dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Quaker shoots in for a takedown but Bastard shows good takedown defense.
Bastard tries to close the distance and clinch up but Quaker swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Bastard stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Bastard wants it to stay on the feet.
Quaker closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Bastard is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Quaker knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Quaker for a finish.

Big Bastard showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Bastard shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Quaker's guard.

Bastard looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Quaker with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Bastard. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bastard thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Quaker's head.
Quaker is refusing to be controlled, as Bastard sits in half guard.
Bastard is nestled in close to Quaker, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Big Bastard comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bastard has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
