PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Iain Durrant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Billy Stryker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stryker has chosen Go To Sleep as his entrance music. Iain Durrant had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 13 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Iain Durrant!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Billy Stryker!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Vladimir Khabensky and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stryker scores with a nice head shot.
Durrant shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Stryker but Stryker pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Stryker is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Durrant walks into a straight right hand from Stryker.

Durrant shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Stryker manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Durrant gets to his feet. Stryker looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Durrant moves into the clinch successfully.
Durrant blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Durrant wants a takedown but no success here.
Durrant goes for a takedown attempt but Stryker pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Iain Durrant. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Stryker misses with an uppercut.
Stryker lands a nice looking body shot.
Stryker throws a one two combo.

Stryker misses with a lunging right hand

and Durrant counters with a shoot takedown. Stryker fights it but they end up in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Durrant stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stryker swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Durrant is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Stryker is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Durrant is aware though and is defending well.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Durrant trying to control but Stryker is working from the bottom.

Durrant drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Durrant jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Durrant trying to control the position from guard on top but Stryker is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Stryker lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Durrant!
Stryker tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.
Durrant tries to hold on but Stryker postures up.

Durrant working to try and regain half guard.

Stryker stands up from mount. Strange move.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Durrant tries to bum rush Stryker with a series of wild strikes but Stryker uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Iain Durrant will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Durrant misses with a takedown attempt - Stryker sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Durrant misses with a few strikes there.
Durrant dives in and grabs Stryker's left leg, looking for a takedown. Stryker pushes down on Durrant's head and hops out.
Durrant shoots in looking for a takedown but Stryker manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Durrant's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Iain Durrant. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Durrant lands a nice shot that snaps Stryker's head back.
Stryker throws a right hand that misses

so Durrant counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Stryker keeping moving, preventing Durrant from controlling successfully.

Stryker is looking for a triangle here but Durrant uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Durrant is trying to move to mount but Stryker reverses beautifully and ends up in Durrant's guard.

Stryker gets to his feet. Durrant looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Stryker throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Stryker fails in his attempt to clinch.

Durrant clinches with his opponent.
Stryker misses with a hook to the ribs.
Stryker throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Durrants head.
Durrant tries for a takedown but Stryker manages to get underhooks.
Stryker lands with a short punch from the clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Stryker creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Durrant is working for takedown but Stryker is calmly controlling the position for now.
Still in the clinch, Stryker scores with a nice short uppercut.
Stryker throws a head punch that misses.

Durrant turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Stryker is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Durrant working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Stryker wants to get back to his feet.
Stryker gets back to half guard.
Stryker tries to get to full guard but Durrant has control of the leg.
Stryker makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Stryker.

Durrant gets to his feet - Stryker follows without any prompting.
Stryker tries to clinch up but Durrant circles away and keeps his distance.
Stryker tries to clinch there but Durrant circles away.
Stryker misses with a few strikes there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Durrant thows a body shot but no joy.

Durrant closes the distance and pushes Stryker back into the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Iain Durrant dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Stryker connects with a nice looking jab.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Durrant looks for a takedown but Stryker sprawls well.

Durrant throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Stryker's waist but Stryker gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Durrant off to one side.

Stryker misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Iain Durrant is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Durrant tried to score with a low kick but Stryker checks it.

Stryker clinches up against the cage.
Stryker misses with a hook to the ribs.
Stryker is working Durrant over against the cage.
Stryker tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Durrant's elbow.
Stryker lands a hook that snaps the head of Durrant backwards.
Stryker swings away with an uppercut that misses.
A head punch on the inside from Stryker fails to land.

Durrant blocks a body shot from Stryker.
Stryker has a couple of punches blocked by Durrant.
Durrant is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Stryker pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Stryker can't find room to land a body shot as Durrant controls the action.
Durrant goes for a takedown attempt but Stryker pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Stryker is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Durrant.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stryker lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Durrant circles away quickly and effectively.
Durrant will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Stryker keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Billy Stryker is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Stryker throws a poor cross that misses
and Durrant connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Durrant shoots for a double leg takedown but Stryker sprawls well. He's pushed Durrant's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Durrant darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Billy Stryker comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Durrant has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
