Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Bertram!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jon Taylor!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Steve Smith and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Taylor is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Taylor fails with the takedown

and Bertram counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Bertram.
Bertram wants to stall.
Bertram lands a nice elbow.
Bertram trying to land knees to the body.
Taylor fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Bertram scores a nice knee to the body.
Bertram trying to stall but Taylor improves his position.
Bertram is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Bertram tries to work over Taylor's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Taylor looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Taylor drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Bertram gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Chris Bertram has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Taylor.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Bertram as Taylor tries to tie him up.
Bertram using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Taylor has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Bertram could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Bertram lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bertram lands a damaging elbow.
Bertram blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Knees to the body from Bertram.
Taylor wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Bertram has him pressed against the ropes.
Taylor fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Taylor ties up his opponent against the ropes and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Taylor no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Bertram avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Taylor throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Bertram content to stall in guard here.
Taylor has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Taylor looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Taylor is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Bertram frees his head nicely. Oh but Taylor has switched to an armbar! Bertram is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
