PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Kaplan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Carlos jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carlos jr has chosen Jarrid Mendelson - The Ultimate Fighter as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kaplan misses with a wild combination.
Kaplan wants to clinch up but Carlos jr keeps it at a distance.

and Carlos jr decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kaplan's guard.

Kaplan has control of Carlos jr's left arm, preventing Carlos jr from doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kaplan is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Kaplan is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Kaplan takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kaplan is taking a breather. Carlos jr says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kaplan throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Carlos jr pushes Kaplan off looking to stand but Kaplan dives back in and keeps control.

Kaplan thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Kaplan missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Carlos jr avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Kaplan.
Kaplan looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Carlos jr with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Kaplan decides to stand up.

Kaplan throws a leg kick but Carlos jr sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Kaplan throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kaplan fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Carlos jr is out of range.
Kaplan sizes up Carlos jr with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Horrible takedown by Kaplan or perhaps it was just good defense by Carlos jr which made him look bad.
Kaplan is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kaplan tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Kaplan throws out a leg kick but Carlos jr moves out of range and Kaplan only half commits.
Kaplan tries to clinch up but Carlos jr circles away and keeps his distance.
Kaplan tries to close the distance and clinch up but Carlos jr swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Kaplan throws a nice looking combination but Carlos jr bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Kaplan tries to bum rush Carlos jr with a series of wild strikes but Carlos jr uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Kaplan tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Kaplan tries to close the distance and clinch but Carlos jr swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Kaplan throws a solid leg kick but Carlos jr takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Kaplan.

Kaplan fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Carlos jr sprawls well initially but Kaplan persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Kaplan is trying to control. Carlos jr wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Carlos jr regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Kaplan.

Kaplan wants to pass the guard but Carlos jr is keeping the position.

Kaplan gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Carlos jr moves away from the strike by Kaplan.
Carlos jr has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Carlos jr there as he acknowledges the shot.

Kaplan tries to clinch up.
Carlos jr keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Kaplan misses with a low kick.
Carlos jr's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Kaplan connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Carlos jr scrambles back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

It looks like Jose Carlos jr has been cut.
Left hook, right uppercut from Kaplan.
Kaplan tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Carlos jr manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Kaplan is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Carlos jr can do to turn this around?

Oooh a lovely combination from Kaplan sends Carlos jr down but not out. Kaplan dives into side control looking to finish.

Carlos jr parries the strikes from Kaplan easily there. Kaplan is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Carlos jr to escape.

Kaplan decides to stand up, so the ref orders Carlos jr to his feet.
Carlos jr blocks a jab.
Carlos jr's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Kaplan connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Carlos jr scrambles back to his feet.
A head kick misses from Kaplan.
Carlos jr with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Kaplan to score with a decent uppercut.
Kaplan lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Carlos jr circles away quickly and effectively.
Carlos jr swats away the attempt to clinch by Kaplan.

Kaplan drops his shoulder and cracks Carlos jr with a huge uppercut! Carlos jr goes down! Can Kaplan finish him?

Kaplan gets to his feet - Carlos jr follows without any prompting.
Kaplan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Kaplan connects with a nice cross there... Carlos jr is looking wobbly and Kaplan recognises it - he's rushed in and lands two more brutal shots that send Carlos jr to the canvas, out cold! A brutal finish to the fight - Kaplan jumps onto the cage to celebrate with the crowd!
