PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Coleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Barbara Boxer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Coleman comes into the arena with Got Money blaring out of the sound system. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 17 - 3, fighting out of Tokyo, Mark Coleman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Barbara Boxer!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Daniel Franklin and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boxer lands with a shot to the body.
Coleman takes a swing at Boxer's ribcage but misses.
Coleman keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Boxer.

Coleman closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Boxer to the mat! Boxer manages to get full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Coleman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Boxer swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Boxer is pulling down on Coleman's head to control his posture.
Boxer utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Coleman thows a big elbow that misses.
Boxer seems keen to control Coleman's posture.
Coleman throwing strikes from guard but Boxer blocks nicely.
Coleman advances to half guard.

Boxer wants to get back to full guard.
Coleman sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Boxer defending well though.

Boxer keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Boxer has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Barbara Boxer was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Coleman looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Coleman misses with the combination.
Boxer misses with a wild combination.
A looping hook to the body misses from Coleman. Boxer does a little dance to reset his feet.
Boxer does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Coleman fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Boxer throws an overhand right that lands on Coleman's shoulder, as Coleman tries to avoid the shot.

Boxer misses with a body shot.
Coleman gets cracked there but stands up to it.
No joy there for Boxer, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Some wild striking there from Coleman.
Boxer attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Boxer lands with an overhand left.
Coleman throws a big shot that misses.
Boxer fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Coleman.
Boxer catches Coleman with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Coleman on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Boxer misses with a two punch combination.
Coleman takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Barbara Boxer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Coleman shoots in and drives through. Boxer sprawls well.
Coleman walks forward, straight into a front kick from Boxer.
Coleman is breathing heavily.
Boxer is trying hard to land a takedown here. Coleman sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Coleman shoots for a takedown but Boxer saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Coleman. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Coleman has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Coleman there as he acknowledges the shot.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Boxer, right into the meat.

Boxer closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Coleman misses with a hook. Boxer ducked under it nicely.
Coleman shoots in but no luck this time.
Mark Coleman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Boxer tries to bum rush Coleman with a series of wild strikes but Coleman uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Boxer moves into the clinch successfully.
Boxer is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Coleman is keeping busy.
Coleman misses with a hook from the clinch.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Coleman as Boxer tries to tie him up.
Boxer lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

and Boxer counters with a series of strikes. Coleman will be more careful next time no doubt.

Coleman shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Boxer pinned against the cage. Boxer gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Boxer fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Coleman has a takedown stuffed.
Coleman moves away from the strike by Boxer.
Boxer throws out a leg kick but Coleman moves out of range and Boxer only half commits.
Coleman fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Coleman tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Boxer swivels and escapes.

Boxer throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Nice takedown defense from Boxer. No joy for Coleman on that attempt.
Coleman stuns Boxer with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Coleman leaves Boxer with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Boxer drives through and clinches with Coleman against the cage.
Coleman misses with a hook to the ribs.
Coleman is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Boxer tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Boxer breaks from the clinch.
Coleman steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Boxer.

Boxer avoids the head kick by Coleman.

Boxer fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Coleman, pushing him back against the cage.
Coleman has Boxer pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Boxer manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Boxer lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Coleman struggles to land a body shot inside as Boxer controls his hands.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Boxer takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Boxer lands an uppercut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Coleman goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Coleman drops down looking for an ankle pick but Boxer pulls his leg out and moves away.
Boxer has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Good exchange - Boxer coming out on top.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Barbara Boxer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Coleman has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Boxer uses from the top position.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Coleman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Coleman lands a couple of digs.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Boxer holds on and takes a little breather.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mark Coleman.
I think Boxer has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
