And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Edward Yazerman!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Illya Tyunina and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yazerman shoots for a takedown but Mendez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Yazerman fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mendez sprawls well initially but Yazerman persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Mendez tries to roll over but Yazerman keeps him under control.

Yazerman is working for a kimura but Mendez is defending it quite comfortably.
Yazerman missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Yazerman slows the pace down in half guard.
Yazerman thows a huge punch but Mendez dodges it nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Yazerman is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Mendez wants to get back to full guard.
Yazerman lands strikes from half guard.

Yazerman seems to be looking for submissions.
Yazerman performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Yazerman is nestled in close to Mendez, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Yazerman is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mendez defends it well.

Yazerman decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Yazerman leaves Mendez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Yazerman shoots in but no luck this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Mendez misses with a wild body shot.

Yazerman drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Yazerman goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Mendez rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Yazerman's guard! Nice work there by Mendez!
