PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Charles Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bert Ernie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brown comes to the cage accompanied by RAWR. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Charles Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 18 - 0, fighting out of London, Bert Ernie!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Steven Brown and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slapping leg kick lands for Ernie.
A combination from Brown does no damage.

Ernie shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Brown working for a triangle but Ernie defends it easily.

Ernie is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Ernie wants to control from the top but Brown keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brown is trying to control the position but Ernie postures up.
Brown knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ernie on the ground.

Brown is working an open guard so Ernie takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Brown looks for a takedown but Ernie sprawls well.

Brown gets a double leg takedown into Ernie's guard.
Ernie not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Brown postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Brown prevents Ernie from getting back to his feet.

Ernie has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Brown can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Ernie is trying to keep Brown in close.

Brown throws a big right hand that misses.
Brown throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ernie is trying to keep Brown in close.
Ernie has momentary wrist control but Brown slips an elbow through the middle.
Ernie looking to hit a scissor sweep but Brown is one step ahead there.

Ernie controls Brown momentarily but Brown frees himself.

Brown got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ernie has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Brown has managed to get both his arms back between Ernie's legs - danger averted.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Bert Ernie was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Ernie throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Brown misses with a takedown
and Ernie makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Nice takedown defense from Ernie. No joy for Brown on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Charles Brown. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ernie is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Brown's half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Ernie is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Bert Ernie was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Ernie gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Ernie tightens his grip and picks Brown up, before dumping him to the ground. Brown manages to land in guard.

Brown on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Brown tries to get out of the position.
Ernie thows a big elbow that misses.
Ernie wants to stand but Brown is controlling his posture from full guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Brown working a defensive guard but Ernie passes into half guard.

Ernie is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Ernie tries to free his leg and advance position but Brown is retaining full guard.
Ernie trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Ernie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Brown swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Ernie passes Brown's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Ernie trying to mount his opponent but Brown defends it.

Ernie decides to stand up.

Ernie drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Ernie tries for a kimura but Brown is defending well.

Ernie goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Brown rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Ernie's guard! Nice work there by Brown!

Brown lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Ernie working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Brown.
Ernie controls Brown momentarily but Brown frees himself.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Ernie holds on and takes a little breather.
Brown tries to free his leg and advance position but Ernie is retaining full guard.
Brown loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ernie clinches up with Brown and pushes him back against the cage.

Bert Ernie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Ernie.

Ernie thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Brown is trying to improve his position.

Ernie decides to stand back up.
Charles Brown is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Brown enables Ernie to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Brown manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Ernie slips nicely into half guard.

Ernie is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Brown sees it coming and defends easily.
Ernie is nestled in close to Brown, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Ernie wants to take a breather but Brown is having none of it.

Ernie looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Ernie passes into side control, despite Brown's attempt to control the position.

Brown controls the position for a moment.
The ground and pound from Ernie seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Brown is trying to get back to half guard.

Ernie is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Brown is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Brown wants to control but Ernie postures up.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Ernie. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Brown avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Ernie.
Ernie lands a nice forearm strike.
Ernie creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Ernie tries for a kimura but Brown is defending well.

Ernie wants to control but Brown is keeping him busy.
Brown tries to bench press Ernie off him but Ernie keeps the position.
Brown is working hard here to advance position.
Brown wants to control but Ernie postures up.
Brown is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Ernie is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Brown sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Charles Brown has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ernie landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Bert Ernie is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Ernie has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
