These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Janus slips a jab and a cross from Gogoplata.
Gogoplata will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Gogoplata walks into a left hand.
Hugh Janus seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gogoplata shoots in for a takedown but Janus shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Janus throws a good cross that connects.
A swing and a miss from Janus.
Gogoplata keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Janus.
Janus throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Janus looks to score with a jab to the body but Gogoplata is just out of range.
Gogoplata tries for a takedown but Janus sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Park Sun Gogoplata. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The fighters circle momentarily. Janus darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Gogoplata wants to clinch.
Gogoplata shoots in for a takedown but Janus shows good takedown defense.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Janus, as that shot connected.

and Janus takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

and Gogoplata counters with a single leg into guard. Janus didn't expect that.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gogoplata is nestled in close to Janus, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Janus can do anything to dispel that myth.

Gogoplata works his way into side control.
Janus dodges the ground and pound from Gogoplata.
Janus tries to buck Gogoplata off but Gogoplata is having none of it.
Janus really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gogoplata. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Janus avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Gogoplata.
Janus parries the strikes from Gogoplata easily there. Gogoplata is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Janus to escape.
Gogoplata scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Janus to see if he's OK.

Gogoplata wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Janus, who protects the arm well.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Gogoplata has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Janus is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Gogoplata yanks on the arm and Janus is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Gogoplata.
