The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua lands a head kick!
McGavin throws a shot from downtown. Rua moves away and avoids it.
Rua tries to clinch but McGavin moves out of range.

Rua gets in close and instigates a clinch.
McGavin wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Rua scores with a knee to the head.

It looks like Shooter McGavin has been cut.

Rua manages to break the clinch.
McGavin looks for a takedown but Rua sprawls well.
A right-left combo lands from Rua.

Rua pushes McGavin up against the cage in a clinch.
Rua prevents a takedown attempt there.
Rua lands a damaging elbow.
McGavin is trying to drag Rua to the mat but Rua just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shooter McGavin. That's going to take a lot out of him.

McGavin goes for a takedown in the clinch but Rua prevents it.

Rua escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

A swing and a miss from McGavin.
Rua moves out of range of the strikes.
Rua tries to clinch but McGavin is having none of it.
Rua lands a leg kick that knocks McGavin off balance momentarily.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rua looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A head kick misses from Rua.
McGavin tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rua sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten McGavin somewhat.

McGavin misses with a left hand
and Rua counters with a body kick that stops McGavin in his tracks momentarily.
Rua fails in his attempt to clinch.
A combination from Rua does no damage.
Shooter McGavin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McGavin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rua's waist but Rua gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McGavin off to one side.
McGavin looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rua is fending him off so far but McGavin persists. Nope, Rua circles away and we're back to standing.
Horrible takedown by McGavin or perhaps it was just good defense by Rua which made him look bad.

McGavin avoids the head kick by Rua.

McGavin dives in and scores a takedown into Rua's guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

McGavin thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Rua really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McGavin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Rua wants to stand up but McGavin is controlling him.
Rua looks gassed!
McGavin stands and throws Rua's legs to the side, diving into side control.

McGavin has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Rua is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. McGavin yanks on the arm and Rua is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by McGavin.
