The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Max lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

It looks like Mat McWhorter has been cut.
Max works the jab nicely.
Max throws a body punch but McWhorter moves out of range.
McWhorter looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Max throws a combination but it was largely blocked by McWhorter.
Max throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Max just misses with a punch to the body.
Max scores with a sloppy right hand. McWhorter should have avoided that one.
Max misses the jab.
McWhorter looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Max is fending him off so far but McWhorter persists. Nope, Max circles away and we're back to standing.
McWhorter moves forwards but Max connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Max lands a slapping body shot.

Max throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Max drops McWhorter with a left right combo! Max follows him down to the ground into side control.

McWhorter is rocked!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Max tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Oh McWhorter is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
McWhorter wants to control but Max postures up.
McWhorter seems to have got his legs back now.
McWhorter is looking for a sweep.
McWhorter is breathing heavily.
Max tries to move to mount but McWhorter blocks the move with his legs.
McWhorter gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Max seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
McWhorter slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

McWhorter tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Max would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

McWhorter is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Max decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Max misses with a few strikes there.
McWhorter is looking to clinch.

McWhorter drives through and clinches with Max against the cage.

McWhorter turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and McWhorter manages to end up in side control.
McWhorter working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Max prevents McWhorter from improving position.

McWhorter is working to tighten is grip on Max's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Max has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but McWhorter is really squeezing tight and eventually Max passes out! McWhorter breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
