PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Frank Singer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sun Quan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Frank Singer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Sun Quan!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Sam Margolis and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Singer looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Quan shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Singer is looking to get to half guard.

Quan goes for an armbar but Singer turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Singer.
Quan trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Singer stopping the sweep attempt from Quan.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Quan is on top in guard.
Singer keeping moving, preventing Quan from controlling successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Quan is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Sun Quan was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Singer has his takedown stuffed

and Quan counters with a nice double leg into side control. Singer won't be happy with that.

Quan tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Singer tries to bench press Quan off him but Quan keeps the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Quan works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Quan throws an elbow but Singer slips to the side and avoids it well.
Quan throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Singer works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Singer moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Quan throws and elbow that misses. Singer uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Quan's guard. Nice move by Singer!
Quan is trying to control the position but Singer postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Singer pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Quan is keeping the position for now.

Singer is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Quan is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Quan has escaped and now he's on top!
Singer is breathing heavily.
Quan in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sun Quan dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Singer gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Quan counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Quan.
Singer drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Quan gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Quan turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Singer takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Singer is letting Quan control him for a moment.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Quan tries to score with some ground and pound. Singer controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Quan controls the position.
Singer tries to improve position but can't.
Singer takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Quan has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The strikes coming from Quan are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Singer tries to bench press Quan off him but Quan keeps the position.
Singer parries the strikes from Quan easily there. Quan is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Singer to escape.
Check out the look on Quan's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Quan creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Singer sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Quan misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

Quan is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Singer knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Quan working the ground and pound from side control.

Quan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Quan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Quan throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Quan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Singer keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sun Quan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Quan drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Singer wants to control but Quan postures up.
Singer is not content to let Quan control the position.
Singer tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Quan gets to mount! Singer was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Quan putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Quan working the ground and pound effectively.
Poor strikes thrown by Quan there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Quan working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Singer turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Quan off and cradles Singer's limp body as Quan celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Sun Quan!
