The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lumens lands a left and a right that send Mellendrez crashing to the mat, dazed. Lumens thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

It looks like Mark Mellendrez has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Lumens throws a right and a left that Mellendrez avoids nicely.

Mellendrez closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Mellendrez is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Lumens's shoulder. That is not cool.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Mark Mellendrez.
Mellendrez slips a jab and a cross from Lumens.

Mellendrez fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Lumens to the ground. Mellendrez is now in Lumens's guard.
Mellendrez sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Lumens's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mellendrez uses his free foot to push down on Lumens's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Lumens.

Mellendrez cracks Lumens with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Mellendrez gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Mellendrez moves into range and clinches up with Lumens.

Mellendrez is trying to trip Lumens. He has hold of a leg but Lumens is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Mellendrez persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Lumens throws a combination. Mellendrez tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Lumens drops Mellendrez with a beautiful combination! Mellendrez stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Lumens is looking for the KO!

Mellendrez closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Mellendrez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Lumens fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
