PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roman Karkoff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Henry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Roman Karkoff!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mark Henry!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Saam Ante and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Henry shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Karkoff but Karkoff pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Henry shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Karkoff defends it nicely.
Henry has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Henry there as he acknowledges the shot.
Henry throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Henry takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Karkoff lands with an uppercut that bounces Henry off the cage and back into rage.
Henry should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Karkoff gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Karkoff is looking to stand up but Henry isn't so interested in that idea.
Karkoff lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Henry!
Henry is hanging on here. He's in a desperate position.

Karkoff is standing up, even though he is in mount.

Henry gets a takedown into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Karkoff preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Henry is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Henry thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Karkoff on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Karkoff tries to get out of the position.
Henry is trying to control. Karkoff wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Henry is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Karkoff manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Henry is squirming around, avoiding Karkoff's attempts to control the action.

Karkoff is working for a guillotine from mount but Henry frees his head quite easily.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Karkoff looking to control but Henry is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Henry is trying to reverse the position but instead Karkoff has taken his back - oops!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roman Karkoff dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Karkoff keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Henry walks into a straight right hand from Karkoff.
Karkoff stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Karkoff connects with a single shot there.
Henry misses with a takedown
and Karkoff counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Karkoff fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Henry manages to avoid it.
Karkoff misses with a jab, cross combination.
Karkoff throws an off balance right hand

and Henry counters with a nice double leg into side control. Karkoff won't be happy with that.
Karkoff gets back to half guard.
Karkoff manages to get to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Henry trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Henry trying to control but Karkoff is working from the bottom.
Henry looking to sit in guard and control but Karkoff gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Karkoff stands up and waves to Henry to follow him.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Karkoff throws a left and a right that both miss

so Henry counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Henry looking to sit in guard and control but Karkoff gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Karkoff stands up from Henry's guard - Karkoff perhaps looking for a knockout.
Karkoff misses with a left hand

and Henry counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Karkoff is trying to stand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Henry is stalling here. Karkoff is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Henry seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Karkoff has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Karkoff has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Henry shoots in but Karkoff avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Roman Karkoff has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Henry.
Karkoff throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Karkoff connects with a looping right hand.
Henry missing with a left hand there. Karkoff was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Henry takes a shot to the body in his stride.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Decent striking displayed by Karkoff there.

Karkoff catches Henry with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Henry shoots for a takedown but Karkoff saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Karkoff is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Henry is breathing heavily.
Karkoff fails to land with a series of punches.
Henry uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Karkoff.
Henry shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Karkoff sprawls well. Karkoff wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Henry gets slowly back to his feet.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Karkoff tries to bum rush Henry with a series of wild strikes but Henry uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Karkoff lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Henry circles away quickly and effectively.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Roman Karkoff will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Karkoff thuds a left hand into Henry's body.
Henry takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Karkoff misses with a straight right.
Karkoff slips a jab and a cross from Henry.
Henry with a lazy takedown attempt
and Karkoff counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Henry gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Karkoff throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Henry on the side of the head.
Karkoff smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.


Henry is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Karkoff throws a shot to the body.
Karkoff will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Karkoff darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Henry is still on wobbly legs! Can Karkoff finish him?
Karkoff fakes the leg kick and throws a superman punch. It's knocked Henry out cold! Brutal finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:03 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Superman Punch). Roman Karkoff!
