PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fedor Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Tyson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tyson has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Fedor Emelianenko has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fedor Emelianenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mike Tyson!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Konstantin Menshow and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tyson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Emelianenko counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Tyson misses with a double jab

and Emelianenko counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tyson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Tyson looks gassed!

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

We're going to have a standup here because Fedor Emelianenko wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Tyson throws a combination that misses
and Emelianenko counters with an inside leg kick.

Emelianenko closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Tyson is being controlled here.
Emelianenko in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Emelianenko remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Emelianenko has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Fedor Emelianenko just wasn't active enough.
Tyson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Tyson wants it to stay on the feet.

Emelianenko shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Tyson manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Tyson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Emelianenko. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Emelianenko drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Emelianenko jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Emelianenko wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tyson keeps working.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Emelianenko wants to control but Tyson is keeping him busy.
Fedor Emelianenko overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Emelianenko throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Tyson was covering up waiting for the punch and Emelianenko finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Emelianenko's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Tyson gets tackled into the cage by Emelianenko. Emelianenko maintains the clinch.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Emelianenko crunches a lovely knee into Tyson's ribcage.
Emelianenko tries for a takedown but Tyson manages to get underhooks.
Emelianenko drops down looking for an ankle pick but Tyson pulls his leg out and moves away.
Tyson throws a nice looking combination but Emelianenko bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Emelianenko wants a takedown but no success here.

Tyson tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
A frustrated look appears on Tyson's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Emelianenko is trying to drag Tyson to the mat but Tyson just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Emelianenko breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mike Tyson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Tyson wants to break the clinch but can't.
Emelianenko is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
A bit of stalling here from Emelianenko.
Emelianenko has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Tyson is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Emelianenko has picked Tyson up - he's going for a ride! Emelianenko dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Tyson is looking to control Emelianenko's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Tyson avoid being mounted?

Emelianenko is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Tyson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Emelianenko.
Emelianenko is keen to just control but Tyson is a slippery customer.

And that's the end of the fight!
Fedor Emelianenko showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Emelianenko has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
