PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Toby McCullough (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dim Mak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mak has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Toby McCullough!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Dim Mak!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Colin Fotheringham and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mak tries to sprawl but McCullough drives through with a takedown into half guard.
McCullough is nestled in close to Mak, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Ground and pound from McCullough.
Mak is looking for a sweep. McCullough is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McCullough lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McCullough is looking to stall here but Mak recovers full guard.
McCullough controls from within his opponent's guard.
McCullough trying to control the position from guard on top but Mak is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mak is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

McCullough is trying to get back to full guard.
Mak wants to stand but McCullough has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
McCullough is doing well to control the position and prevent Mak from advancing to side control.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
McCullough on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if McCullough tries to get out of the position.
Mak tries to stand and escape but McCullough is controlling the position.
McCullough is trying is best to control the position here.

Toby McCullough has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

McCullough is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Mak's half guard.
Mak looks gassed!

McCullough working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
McCullough thows a huge punch but Mak dodges it nicely.

McCullough is keen to just control but Mak is a slippery customer.
McCullough thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mak's head.

McCullough throwing shots but Mak is blocking nicely.
McCullough seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

McCullough looking to sit in guard and control but Mak gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
McCullough wants to sweep but no luck.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mak is looking to stand up but McCullough won't let him.
McCullough is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
McCullough is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mak is controlling him.
Mak won't allow McCullough to sweep him here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mak stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mak wants it to stay on the feet.
McCullough misses with a hook
and Mak counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
McCullough fails with the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Mak digs a good body shot into McCullough's ribs.
Mak misses with a jab, cross combination.
Mak connects with a right hand. McCullough shakes it off.
McCullough tries for a takedown but Mak sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
McCullough throws an off balance right hand
and Mak counters with a stiff right hand.
McCullough fails with the takedown.
Mak scores with a shot to the body.

Mak misses with a jab, cross combination.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

McCullough rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Mak counters with a straight right hand.


It looks like Toby McCullough has been cut.
McCullough has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from McCullough there as he acknowledges the shot.
Mak looks to throw the jab but McCullough is out of range.

Mak misses with a looping left.

Mak stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mak wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Toby McCullough. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mak attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Mak lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
McCullough looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Mak is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by McCullough.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Mak throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
No joy there for Mak, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
McCullough tries for a takedown but Mak sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Mak misses with a straight left.
Mak fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. McCullough looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Mak shoots in but no luck this time.
Toby McCullough seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Horrible takedown by McCullough or perhaps it was just good defense by Mak which made him look bad.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mak lands a nice looking body shot.
Mak misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from McCullough.
McCullough throws an off balance right hand
and Mak counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Mak throws a right hand that McCullough ducks under and follows up with a left that McCullough also avoids with ease.
Mak moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McCullough changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mak tries to avoid it but McCullough manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mak to the ground. Mak escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
McCullough misses with a hook
and Mak counters with a three punch combo that has McCullough backing up. McCullough nods at Mak to acknowledge the strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dim Mak showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


McCullough shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mak pinned against the cage. Mak gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Dim Mak seems to be getting the better of the standup.
McCullough fails with the takedown
and Mak cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Mak tries to score with a low kick but McCullough moves his leg out of the way.
McCullough misses with a lunging right hand
and Mak counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
McCullough shoots in and drives through. Mak sprawls well.

McCullough displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Mak throws out the jab.
Mak looks to throw the jab but McCullough is out of range.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mak throws a jab but it's blocked by McCullough.
Mak throws a lazy right hand but McCullough sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Mak throws a shot from downtown. McCullough moves away and avoids it.
Mak misses with a leg kick.
McCullough takes one to the side of the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mak ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Mak lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but McCullough circles away quickly and effectively.
Good standup being displayed there by Mak as he connects with a hook.
Mak tries to clinch there but McCullough circles away.
McCullough looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
McCullough steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Mak.
Mak bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps McCullough's head backwards.

Mak misses with a looping left.
McCullough avoids a punch combination nicely.
Mak lands a body shot.
McCullough throws a right hand that misses
enabling Mak to counter with a crisp jab.
McCullough misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Mak lands the left hand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mak looks to land a combination but McCullough avoids it well.
McCullough throws an off balance right hand
enabling Mak to counter with a crisp jab.
Mak scores with a sloppy right hand. McCullough should have avoided that one.
Mak fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Mak misses with a looping left.
Mak throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Mak ducks down and throws a hook to the body but McCullough moves away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dim Mak comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Mak has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
