VanWinkle comes to the cage accompanied by AC/DC - For Those About To Rock. Rutten has chosen El Guapo Likes to Dance as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
VanWinkle looks to clinch
and Rutten counters with a low kick, right behind VanWinkle 's knee.
Rutten uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before VanWinkle has time to react.
VanWinkle tries to clinch up.
Rutten scoring well with a low kick there.
A left and a right from Rutten both land. Nice combination.
Rutten connects with a solid leg kick.

A head kick lands from VanWinkle that sends Rutten to the canvas. Rutten tries to scramble back to his feet but VanWinkle brings him back down into side control.

Rutten is rocked!

It looks like Bas Rutten has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Rutten gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Rutten is still in real trouble! Can VanWinkle finish him?

Rutten is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but VanWinkle pulls his head out easily.
Rutten regains full guard. Nicely done.
Rutten seems to have recovered his senses.
Rutten is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
VanWinkle trying to control the position from guard on top but Rutten is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

VanWinkle drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rutten manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now VanWinkle has Rutten in his guard.

Rutten passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Rutten prevents VanWinkle from escaping the position.

Rutten thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Rutten postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Rutten is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but VanWinkle is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Rutten throws a strike aimed at the side of VanWinkle's head but VanWinkle avoids it well.
Rutten throwing shots but missing, from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rutten has an Americana. VanWinkle didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Rutten is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Rutten hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
