Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Richard Tweedly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rafael Anjos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Richard Tweedly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rafael Anjos!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Steve Erwin and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tweedly moves away from the strike by Anjos.

Tweedly manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Anjos on his heels. He'll look to pass Anjos's guard now, I'm sure.
Tweedly postures up in Anjos's guard and throws a big left but Anjos blocks it.
Tweedly trying to control but Anjos is working from the bottom.
Tweedly won't allow Anjos to sweep him here.
Tweedly pushes down on Anjos's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Tweedly is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Anjos has managed to free his arm - good work.

Anjos is trying to stand.
Tweedly seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Anjos does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Anjos is pushing Tweedly's head away, looking to escape. Tweedly manages to hold on to the position though.

Tweedly is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Anjos knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Tweedly is looking to take a break and control but Anjos is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Anjos tries to bench press Tweedly off him but Tweedly keeps the position.

Tweedly is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Anjos has escaped the position, nice work there.
Tweedly lands a nice forearm strike.
Tweedly is looking to take a break and control but Anjos is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tweedly is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Anjos is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Anjos must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Anjos connects with the punch.
Tweedly misses with a takedown

and Anjos decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Tweedly's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Anjos trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Tweedly is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Anjos trying to control the position from guard on top but Tweedly is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Tweedly looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Anjos sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Tweedly's guard.
Tweedly tries to get to full guard but Anjos has control of the leg.

Tweedly tries to roll over but Anjos keeps him under control.
Tweedly trying to hold on to Anjos's head to control him but Anjos postures up.
Anjos wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tweedly keeps working.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Tweedly is looking for a sweep. Anjos is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Anjos tries to pass the half guard into mount. Tweedly knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Tweedly is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Anjos wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tweedly keeps working.

Tweedly is working hard here to advance position.
Anjos wants to free his trapped foot but Tweedly is holding on for dear life with his legs.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Anjos uses his free foot to push down on Tweedly's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Tweedly.
Tweedly is working to get back to half guard.
Anjos wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Anjos wants to control the pace but Tweedly is squirming around nicely.
Anjos fails to move to back control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Tweedly is trying desperately to improve position.
Tweedly wants to hold on but Anjos pushes him away.
Anjos moves to the back.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Anjos's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Tweedly breaks Anjos's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Tweedly drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Tweedly jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rafael Anjos showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Anjos throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Tweedly misses with a takedown attempt
and Tweedly takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Tweedly moves out of range of the strikes.
Richard Tweedly seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tweedly shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Anjos as he jumps to the side.
Anjos scores with a crisp jab that stopped Tweedly in his tracks.
Tweedly moves forwards but Anjos connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Anjos connects with a looping right hand.
Anjos scores with a jab to the jaw.
Tweedly gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Anjos counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Richard Tweedly. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

The fighters are battling for position here. Tweedly manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Tweedly has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Anjos can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Anjos wants to pass the guard but Tweedly is keeping the position.

Tweedly had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Anjos defends it easily.

Tweedly won't allow Anjos to pass to mount.

Tweedly controls Anjos momentarily but Anjos frees himself.
Anjos looking to pass the guard.

Tweedly can't keep his opponent in guard - Anjos advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Anjos works his way into full mount!
Tweedly slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Tweedly is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Anjos's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Anjos's back!

Anjos is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Tweedly gets his way!

You can see the frustration on Anjos's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Tweedly is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Anjos defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Anjos covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Tweedly is looking for the choke from the back position but Anjos is controlling his hands well.
Anjos breaks Tweedly's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Tweedly is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Anjos wants to improve his position but Tweedly is controlling well.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Richard Tweedly.
I think Tweedly has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
