The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paighn gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Darnell.
Paighn misses with a leg kick
and Darnell connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Darnell lands a right hook to the body.
Darnell's jab looks to have found its range, popping Paighn under the eye.
Paighn misses with a low kick.
Phil Paighn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Paighn throws a nice head kick!

It looks like Bruce Darnell has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

so Darnell counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Paighn utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Darnell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Paighn swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Darnell slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Darnell is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Paighn knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Darnell tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Darnell has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
