PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Souka Sudoka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raino RIll (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Raino RIll will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Souka Sudoka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Raino RIll!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, John Mangel and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
RIll fails with the takedown

and Sudoka counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
RIll is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Sudoka wants to control from the top but RIll keeps moving.
RIll really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sudoka. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Sudoka slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Sudoka trying to control but RIll is working from the bottom.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sudoka has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Sudoka looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Sudoka frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
RIll tries to hold on but Sudoka postures up.
Sudoka wants to take his opponent's back but RIll doesn't allow it.

Sudoka is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, RIll has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Sudoka has hold of RIll's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and RIll manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
RIll is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
RIll wants to hold on but Sudoka pushes him away.
RIll is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Sudoka is staying active.

RIll is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Poor strikes thrown by Sudoka there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
RIll is desperately trying to improve his position but Sudoka has a good base and remains in mount.
RIll wants to control but Sudoka is having none of it.
RIll might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Sudoka kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Sudoka throws the kick towards the body but RIll avoids it.
RIll gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Sudoka counters with a single leg into guard. RIll didn't expect that.

Sudoka got a little sloppy there for a moment and RIll has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sudoka has managed to get both his arms back between RIll's legs - danger averted.

Sudoka is standing up over RIll. RIll looks to escape but Sudoka dives into side control.
RIll is looking for a sweep.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sudoka throws an elbow but RIll slips to the side and avoids it well.

Sudoka is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. RIll knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
RIll is looking to reverse the position.
Sudoka tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

RIll is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Sudoka is looking to take a break and control but RIll is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

RIll throws a front kick that sends Sudoka stumbling back into the cage.
Sudoka slaps away a takedown attempt from RIll, before circling back to the center of the mat.
RIll tries a head kick but it misses.
RIll shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Sudoka counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
RIll wants to stand and escape but Sudoka is having none of it.

RIll working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sudoka doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sudoka manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if RIll can do anything to dispel that myth.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sudoka accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
RIll will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Souka Sudoka overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Souka Sudoka has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Raino RIll.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sudoka, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
