PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Damien Price (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aaron Law (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Aaron Law was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Damien Price!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Aaron Law!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Tiny Johnson and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Law gets caught flat footed, as Price shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Law working a defensive guard here.
Price controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Price is looking to work some ground and pound but Law has wrist control.
Law looking for a sweep. Not yet Law, not yet.
Price wants to pass the guard but Law is keeping the position.
Price showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Law slaps away a takedown attempt from Price, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Price looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Law is fending him off so far but Price persists. Nope, Law circles away and we're back to standing.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Price darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Law is staying active underneath Price, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Price not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Price sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Law defending well though.
Law wants to get back to his feet.
Price controlling the action here.

Law wants to improve his position but Price is controlling well.
Law is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Price scores with a couple of nice shots.
Price is looking to take a break and control but Law is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Price is really struggling to control Law but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Law is looking to control Price's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Law avoid being mounted?

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Price swats away the attempt to clinch by Law.
Price circles away from the clinch attempt.
Price throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Law's waist but Law gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Price off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Damien Price. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Price shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Law napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Price remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Price lands a decent elbow from side control.

Price is looking to take a break and control but Law is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Price is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Price shoots in but Law avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Law tries to clinch there but Price circles away.
Price looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Law fails to land the takedown.
Law stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Law wants it to stay on the feet.
Price looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Law is fending him off so far but Price persists. Nope, Law circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Damien Price. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Price swats away the attempt to clinch by Law.
Price misses with a body kick.
Law misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Law wants to clinch up but Price keeps it at a distance.
Law moves to clinch but Price breaks away

and Price counters with a nice double leg into side control. Law won't be happy with that.

Price tries to move into full mount but can't pass Law's legs.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Price throwing strikes but Law manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Price can't do much from the bottom here.
Price is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Law is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Price knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Law on the ground.
Price holding on.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Price is looking to regain half guard here but Law keeps moving and retains side control.

Law trying to control the position but Price is working away.
Price tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Law presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Price is squirming around, avoiding Law's attempts to control the action.
Price tries to hold on but Law pushes him away.
Price is wriggling around trying to escape.

Price is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Law wants to control the pace but Price is squirming around nicely.
Price tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Price tries to hold on but Law postures up.
Price is trying to escape the mount.
Price wants to control but Law is having none of it.
Price is trying desperately to improve position.

Price throwing hammer fists to the chest of Law. What's that going to do exactly?
Price is looking to improve his position but Law isn't that keen on the idea.
Price is squirming around, avoiding Law's attempts to control the action.
Law controlling the position easily from mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Law prevents Price from getting the reversal.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Damien Price dominated that second round.
That's time! Price's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Price shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Law but Law pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Law wants to clinch.
Law moves in looking to clinch but Price pushes him off.

Price throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Law was covering up waiting for the punch and Price finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Price trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Law lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Price!
Price wants to hold on but Law pushes him away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Price sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Price controlling the position well.
Price tries to roll over but Law keeps him under control.
Price tries to kick Law off but Law keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Price is trying to get back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Price is working hard here to advance position.
Law throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The fighters are battling for position here. Price manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Price has a closed guard, preventing Law from standing up.
Price on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Price tries to get out of the position.
Price is pulling down on Law's head. It's preventing any offense from Law, at least for the moment.

Nice takedown defense from Law. No joy for Price on that attempt.
Law tries to clinch but Price moves out of range.
Price avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Law tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Price manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Price shoots in but no luck this time.

Price closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Law's guard.
Price wants to pass the guard but Law is keeping the position.

Law keeping moving, preventing Price from controlling successfully.
Price stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Law swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Damien Price overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Law manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Price manages to get himself to full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Damien Price showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Price, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
