PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Duggan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hiro Protagonist (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duggan comes to the cage accompanied by tunnetko jo rakkauden. Frank Duggan has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Frank Duggan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Hiro Protagonist!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Marco Blurström and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Protagonist tries to land a body kick
and Duggan counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Duggan throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Duggan ducks under a wild hook from Protagonist.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Protagonist swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Protagonist slips a straight right by Duggan.
Duggan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Protagonist enables Duggan to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Protagonist manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Duggan won't allow Protagonist to get back to his feet.
Duggan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Duggan wants to control from the top but Protagonist keeps moving.

Duggan stops Protagonist from standing up.
Duggan trying to control but Protagonist is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Protagonist is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Duggan trying to control the position but instead, Protagonist has worked for underhooks and has pushed Duggan into the cage.
Protagonist wants to get back to striking at distance but Duggan won't allow it.
Protagonist lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Duggan taking a breather.
A nice left hand lands by Duggan.
Duggan tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
A hook to the body from Protagonist.

Protagonist breaks the clinch.
Protagonist looks to score with a jab to the body but Duggan is just out of range.
A big left from Protagonist misses.
Duggan drops his hands momentarily and Protagonist takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Duggan throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Duggan misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Protagonist.
Protagonist swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Duggan counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Protagonist avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Protagonist throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Duggan makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Frank Duggan will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Duggan lands with an uppercut that bounces Protagonist off the cage and back into rage.
Duggan misses with a shot to the body
and Protagonist counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Hiro Protagonist seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Duggan ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Duggan blocks a leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Protagonist misses with a left hand
and Duggan counters with a series of strikes. Protagonist will be more careful next time no doubt.
Protagonist misses with a double jab
and Duggan cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Protagonist throws a right and a left that both miss.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Duggan is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Duggan looks to land a left hand but Protagonist moved out of range nicely.
Protagonist takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Protagonist keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Duggan is looking to wear down Protagonist with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Duggan throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Protagonist counters with a series of strikes. Duggan will be more careful next time no doubt.
Duggan will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Duggan shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Protagonist throws an off balance right hand
and Duggan counters with a stiff right hand.
A jab from Protagonist misses.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Duggan thuds a left hand into Protagonist's body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Hiro Protagonist will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Duggan does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Protagonist misses with a lunging right hand
and Duggan counters with a thumping low kick.
Duggan lands a nice leg kick that just misses Protagonist's sensitive parts.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Protagonist looks for the body kick but Duggan saw that one coming.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Protagonist swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Duggan counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Protagonist thinking.
Protagonist throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Protagonist throws an off balance right hand
and Duggan counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Protagonist throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Protagonist misses with a hook
and Duggan counters with a low kick, right behind Protagonist 's knee.
Protagonist is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.
Protagonist throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Protagonist feints and then cracks Duggan's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Duggan down.
Protagonist takes one on the chin but seems OK.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Duggan misses with a leg kick.
Protagonist is looking to chop away at Duggan's legs.
Protagonist misses with a hook
and Duggan counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Protagonist throws a right and a left that Duggan avoids nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Protagonist fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Duggan manages to avoid it.
Duggan scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Duggan avoids the body shot from Protagonist.

And that's the end of the fight!
Frank Duggan showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Duggan has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
