Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jamie Cooney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenshi Zuko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Zuko's choice of entrance music: The Writ. Jamie Cooney has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jamie Cooney!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kenshi Zuko!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Reed Andrews and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zuko connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Zuko misses with a straight left.
Zuko connects with a good right hand that stumbles Cooney. Cooney circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Cooney looks to score with a jab to the body but Zuko is just out of range.

Zuko throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cooney was covering up waiting for the punch and Zuko finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Zuko drops back looking for a leg! Cooney is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Cooney manages to kick Zuko off! Zuko jumps back into Cooney's guard.
Cooney has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Zuko must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Zuko throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cooney works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Cooney controls Zuko momentarily but Zuko frees himself.
Zuko trying to control the position from guard on top but Cooney is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Zuko missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Zuko steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Cooney. That one must have hurt.

Zuko shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Cooney throws a front kick aimed at Zuko's knee but Zuko avoids it well.
No joy there for Zuko, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

A slapping body kick lands there for Cooney.

Zuko misses with the combination.
Zuko lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Zuko throws a leg kick which misses Cooney's front leg but catches the back leg as Cooney tries to avoid it.
Cooney throws a sloppy head kick and Zuko moves out of range easily.

and Cooney counters with a right hand to the body.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cooney throws a chopping leg kick but Zuko manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kenshi Zuko dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Zuko misses with a takedown attempt - Cooney sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Cooney shoots for a double leg takedown but Zuko sprawls well. He's pushed Cooney's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Zuko lands with a hook. Cooney tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Zuko closes the distance and clinches up with Cooney, looking for a takedown. Zuko pushes Cooney against the cage but Cooney circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Zuko takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Zuko fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Cooney checks it well.
Zuko throws a big shot that misses.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Cooney throws a nice inside leg kick.
Zuko jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Cooney comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Zuko throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
enabling Cooney to counter with a crisp jab.
Zuko fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Cooney checks it well.
Cooney steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Zuko.
Cooney fails with the takedown
and Zuko counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Cooney is looking to score with low kicks.
Cooney takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Zuko checks the leg kick nicely there.

Zuko just misses with a punch to the body.
Zuko tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Cooney turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Cooney lands a nice hook to Zuko's body. Zuko takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Cooney loads up on a big right hand but Zuko slips the punch.

Cooney thows a body kick. Zuko tries to catch it but that hurt him.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!

Cooney takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Zuko throws a hook but Cooney blocks it.
Cooney fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Zuko looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Zuko tries for a takedown but Cooney sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Zuko on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Zuko has his takedown stuffed
and Cooney counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Zuko takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Cooney feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Zuko shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cooney sprawls well. Cooney wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Zuko gets slowly back to his feet.
Jamie Cooney has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kenshi Zuko.

Zuko throws out a loose jab but Cooney uses good head movement to avoid it.

Well Cooney has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
