The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wheaton jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Wheaton stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Wheaton throws a series of strikes that have Vlad backpedaling.
Wheaton throws a leg kick

and Vlad counters with a shoot takedown. Wheaton fights it but they end up in guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Wheaton looking for a guillotine here but Vlad defends easily.

Wheaton is looking for a triangle but Vlad pushes his legs off easily.
Wheaton wants to stand but Vlad is controlling the position.

Vlad got a little sloppy there for a moment and Wheaton has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Vlad has managed to get both his arms back between Wheaton's legs - danger averted.

Vlad has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Wheaton keeping moving, preventing Vlad from controlling successfully.

Wheaton really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vlad. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Wheaton had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Vlad defends it easily.

Vlad drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Vlad jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Wheaton is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Vlad is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Vlad keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Wheaton's head.

Vlad tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Vlad cracks Wheaton with a big elbow.

Vlad is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Wheaton is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Vlad has hold of Wheaton's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Wheaton tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Vlad cranks the arm and Wheaton screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Wheaton, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
