Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rene Schweidler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Waltteri Lahti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Schweidler might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to IZ. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Waltteri Lahti was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rene Schweidler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Waltteri Lahti!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Arvi Lind and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A swing and a miss from Lahti.
Schweidler connects with a leg kick. Lahti looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Lahti bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Lahti goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Schweidler rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Lahti's guard! Nice work there by Schweidler!
Lahti has a closed guard, preventing Schweidler from standing up.
Lahti looking to hit a scissor sweep but Schweidler is one step ahead there.

Schweidler wants to control from the top but Lahti keeps moving.

Lahti had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Schweidler defends it easily.
Lahti manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Schweidler is in all sorts of trouble here.
Schweidler's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Schweidler can't escape the position.

Lahti goes for an armbar but Schweidler turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Schweidler.
Lahti is pulling down on Schweidler's head to control his posture.

Lahti is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Schweidler defends well.
Lahti tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Schweidler wanted to stand there but Lahti had control of the position.
Lahti lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Schweidler!

Lahti looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Schweidler is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Lahti looking to control but Schweidler is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Schweidler is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Schweidler tries to lock up and control but Lahti gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Schweidler wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Lahti swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Schweidler is now in Lahti's guard. A big mistake from Lahti there, giving up the dominant position!

Schweidler wants to stand but Lahti has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Lahti is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Schweidler is aware though and is defending well.

Lahti is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Schweidler defends well.
Schweidler wants to stand and escape but instead Lahti has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Lahti stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Schweidler swivels though and keeps the full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Waltteri Lahti will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Lahti throws a looping overhand right but Schweidler ducks down to avoid it.

It looks like Rene Schweidler has been cut.
A nice inside leg kick there by Schweidler. That's going to slow Lahti down.
Schweidler wants to clinch up but Lahti keeps it at a distance.
Lahti loads up on a big right hand but Schweidler slips the punch.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Lahti drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Schweidler manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Lahti has Schweidler in his guard.

Lahti swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lahti looks to land a combination. Schweidler sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Schweidler throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Lahti shoots in but Schweidler avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That kick from Schweidler tenderised Lahti's leg. Lahti is trying to keep his angry face on.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Waltteri Lahti showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Lahti lands with a good body shot.

Lahti closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Schweidler quickly recovers to half guard.
Lahti tries to pass the half guard into mount. Schweidler knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Lahti thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Lahti is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Lahti is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Schweidler is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Waltteri Lahti is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Lahti is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Schweidler defends it well.
Rene Schweidler has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Lahti passes to full mount!

Waltteri Lahti comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Lahti has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
