Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Christopher Dean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Welin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dean gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Dean pushes Welin off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Welin decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Dean tries to roll over but Welin keeps him under control.
Dean is looking to escape.
Welin moves nicely into side control.
Dean gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Welin slows the pace down in half guard.

Despite being in the dominant position, Sam Welin just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Welin throws a head kick but Dean moves out of range.

Welin closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Welin stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Welin drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Welin wants to control from the top but Dean keeps moving.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Let's hope that Welin has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Dean rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Welin moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Dean really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Welin is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Dean knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Welin throws a right hand that Dean ducks under and follows up with a left that Dean also avoids with ease.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Welin feints and as Dean raises his hands in defense, Welin changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Welin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dean swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Welin is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Welin sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Dean's guard.
Dean landing rabbit punches to the side of Welin's head. Not doing much damage but still scoring a few points.
Welin wants to free his trapped foot but Dean is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Welin is tying to control. Dean wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Dean is trying to stand up here but Welin is controlling him well.
Welin looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Dean gets back to full guard.
Welin stays in close to Dean's body and controls the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Welin decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Dean, up you get!

Dean slips a nice elbow through Welin's hands, connecting with Welin's forehead.
Welin is looking to control Dean's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Welin avoid being mounted?

Sam Welin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Welin has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dean can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dean postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Welin to stand up.
Dean takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Welin shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Welin showed some decent athleticism there.
Still in half guard, Welin seems content to control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Christopher Dean.
Well Welin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
