The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Istomin misses with an attempted mid kick.
Istomin fails with a takedown attempt.
Istomin tries for a takedown but Grygiel sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Grygiel displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Istomin.
Artur Grygiel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alexi Istomin.

Grygiel closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Istomin did well to prevent Grygiel getting side control.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Grygiel stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Grygiel tries to stand but Istomin is controlling from the bottom.
Grygiel has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Grygiel slaps away a takedown attempt from Istomin, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Istomin tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Grygiel swivels and escapes.
Istomin looks gassed!
Grygiel throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Istomin's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Grygiel dives in looking to finish as Istomin flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Grygiel's strikes! Grygiel is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Istomin's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Istomin was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
