Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Chris Masters!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Robert Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Marco Blurström and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson has a takedown stuffed.

Masters shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Johnson is trying to maintain the position but Masters is very close to passing his half guard.
Masters is taking a breather. Johnson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Masters wants to control but Johnson is keeping him busy.

Masters prevents Johnson from improving his position.

Johnson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Masters is working away from the top position though.
Masters thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Johnson's head.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnson wants to improve his position but Masters is controlling well.
Masters wants to pass the guard but Johnson is defending well.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Masters is trying to work for a kimura but Johnson is defending well.
Still in half guard, Masters seems content to control.

Johnson flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Masters is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Johnson has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Masters takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Masters tries to control but Johnson wriggling away.
Johnson keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Masters controlling the pace for now.

Masters has control of Johnson's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Johnson regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Johnson tries to lock up and control but Masters gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Masters attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Johnson moves out of range as Masters strikes.

Masters shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Johnson's guard.
Masters's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Chris Masters overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

We're going to have a standup here because Chris Masters wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

and Johnson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Masters won't be happy with that.
Masters is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Johnson tries to pass to full mount but Masters defends it.

Masters looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Johnson wants to control from the top but Masters keeps moving.
Johnson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Masters works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Masters is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Johnson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Johnson has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Masters to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Johnson is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Masters pulls down on the head and he's put Johnson to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Chris Masters!
